Awards Banquet 2017
On Thursday, March 9, 2017, North Star District honored its award winners from the 2016 Scouting Year. Thank you to Banquet Chair Mark Pishon for a wonderful evening, enjoyed by the over 100 attendees.
Thank you to former Pacer Eddie Gill for serving as our Keynote Speaker. He gave a very emotional and powerful personal story of the impact on youth service organizations on his life. He spoke very highly of scouting as a partner in the youth service organization movement.

Director of Field Services Nathan Young was on hand, too, to award North Star District the Journey to Excellence Gold Award. This reflects not just on the District but on all of the units that earned their gold, allowing the District to bask in their glories.

North Star District Awards Banquet
Remember to put in your and your spouse’s reserviation for the District’s Annual Awards Banquet. Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Palomino Club in Zionsville. This is our chance to recognize our dedicated adult scouters.
This is a non-uniform event.
Nominations for District Awards
On March 9, 2017, we hold our annual District Awards Banquet at the Palomino Club in Zionsville, IN. 
We still have some time for nominations for the District Award of Merit (2 available), the highest district award possible in the BSA. Award recipients do not need to be active in the District Committee, but do need to be exemplary scouters in their unit.
In addition, we are looking for
- scouters to recognize in the first year of scouting but made a significant contribution;
- Scouters to recognize for their long term contribution to their unit;
- Scouters who have earned their Scouter’s Key;
- Scouters who have been awarded their Unit Award of Merit; and
- Scouters who deserve recognition for any particular efforts.

You will be able to make reservations for you and your spouse by Friday this week. This is a non-uniform event.
Adult Recognition Time
Now is the time to start thinking about recognition for adults in your unit or in the district. From District Executive Con Sullivan:
There are nomination forms for you to complete if you feel someone in your unit or district is deserving of recognition at the North Star District Dinner on March 9th. Please complete the relevant nomination form(s) and return to Mark Pishon, North Star Advancement Chair, at mpishon@gmail.com by February 12th.

Encouraging Parental Involvement through Recognition
Many Cub Scout Packs are getting ready to change leadership in the coming months as Webelos transition to Boy Scouts and their parents follow.
Recognition of outgoing leaders is important to inspire incoming and future leaders to uphold a high standard of service in your unit. If outgoing leaders are recognized, incoming leaders will become more excited to duplicate the feat.
Now is a great time to see if your departing leader has earned the Unit Award of Merit. This is an award offered by the unit, approved by your Unit Commissioner or lacking a Unit Commissioner the District Commissioner, and then the Council Executive and Council Commissioner.
Please review this recognition now so that you can have it available for worthy volunteers at the coming Blue and Gold Banquet for your Pack.

Scouting legacy
Scoutmastercg.com has a wonderful column about your Scouting Legacy. It is worth a quick read.
It is useful to keep your spirits up. Another spin is that it is a reason we need to recognize adults now. The boys often are slow to do it themselves. It may take years.
It may never occur and the adults must do it in self-reflection.
Still we are leaving a legacy.
