Mat Gerdenich, Jeff Heck, Con Sullivan, Andrew Linden, Ralph Stacy and the rest of the Commissioners Staff thank the 28 31 units that have worked hard to get us to this stage. Your effort is greatly appreciated.
Problems logging into Rechartering?
Lead Unit Commissioner for Rechartering Mat Gerdenich and District Commissioner Jeff Heck have received several emails from unit leaders attempting to log into the rechartering system. Many have complained that they cannot login.
We have received an email from Council Registrar Sharon Cone. Sharon clarifies that every year you must login as a “first-time user”. Last year’s login information will not work.
Sorry for any confusion.
Rechartering: Turn-Ins Begin Thursday, October 8
For units in Washington and Pike Township, many units have their Rechartering Turn-In this Thursday night.
Catholic units in those townships have their Turn-Ins next week.
Zionsville units have their Turn-Ins next week, too.
See Rechartering Update 2015 page for the official date and time for your unit.
Recharter dues calculator
One of the questions I ran into last night at Roundtable was “How do I calculate the dues?”
Simply put, use this Excel spreadsheet. It will do the work for you.
REMINDER: Roundtable on Rechartering
This Thursday Roundtable at Second Presbyterian will focus on Rechartering.
Meetings to turn in charters begin October 8th, so all units need to be at Roundtable to be able to plan.
Recharter email’s dispatch tomorrow
UPDATE: 9/28/15, 9:25 AM:
I have heard reports that units have not received their rechartering email as scheduled. I, too, should have received mine as a Chartered Organization Representative for my unit. I have not seen it. I will be investigating. Watch this page for updates.
In the meantime, for planning purposes, remember that your scheduled meeting time is already posted on our Rechartering Update 2015 page.
11:00 AM: Con Sullivan confirmed this morning that no emails were dispatched Friday, but the current plan is to send them later today, Monday. We will post more here when it becomes available.
4:30 pm: The email has been reported received by several units.
Please note that the login process opens on October 1st. The next couple days are for preparation only.

Changes in District Rechartering
Over the past several years, Rechartering has been confused and chaotic in our District.
This year the District Commissioner is working to avoid this problem. The plan is wholly different than what North Star has done in the past. It requires charters to be prepared and turned in on specific dates on October 8th, 14th, and 15th. Each unit is scheduled for a specific date, time, and location for charter turn-in.
Many details about the process and expectations are listed on the district webpage for rechartering. Please make sure that your Committee Chair reviews this page as soon as possible, so that your unit is ready on time for its rechartering turn-in date.
New Cub Training: Hints and Tricks
BSA has finally made the new Cub Training system available online. I have completed the first third of the Den Leader Training. From this limited experience, I have learned a lot about the new system.
Different System
The new training system is wholly different than our old system. It relies on a third-party vendor that provides online training systems which is branded as ScoutingU. This means that you have to login to the new system, even if you are already logged into to my.scouting.org. The ScoutingU website has its own quirks and navigational issues. Its flow is terrible. You have to read the instructions extremely carefully, because it is not at all like either the old system or most any other operating system that you have used.
Please note that the vendor does not appear to have access to your “Trained” record in ScoutNet (as viewed in my.scouting.org or myscouting.scouting.org). It can only report whether you have “Completed” or are “Incomplete” on the vendor’s training modules. Please check with my.scouting.org for your training records’ status.
If you are having technical difficulties accessing the new training site, read the comments section below for updates and tips for troubleshooting.
Cub Leader Training
Don’t forget to get your new leaders trained online at My.Scouting.org or with in-person classes from Council and its Districts as listed at the new Council Training Hub website.
This training is required for Rechartering.
If you run a training session, please add it to the new Council Training website.
YPT Optimal Expiration Date
As we head into rechartering season, opening October 1st, the Commissioner’s Staff is going to work hard at making this process as quick and painless as possible.
In order to allow this goal to be accomplished, we need the cooperation of our volunteers. One of the logistical nightmares for our unit chairs is to assure that each of the scouters registered is properly trained in Youth Protection Training.
BSA puts the requirements this way:
BSA Policy is:
Youth Protection training is required for all BSA registered volunteers. Youth Protection training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer does not meet the BSA’s Youth Protection training requirement at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.
To find out more about the Youth Protection policies of the Boy Scouts of America and how to help Scouting keep your family safe, see the Parent’s Guide in any of the Cub Scouting or Boy Scouting handbooks, or go to http://www.scouting.org/Training/YouthProtection.aspx.
This begs the question, “When is rechartering done?”
