Preparation for rechartering: roster review
Remember rechartering is only a few weeks away. Now is the time to make sure your roster is up to date. Send it to Jessica Hofman to make sure council’s records match.
Then review the training for your unit. If you have 100% trained of next year’s leaders, you are all set. Otherwise, get them trained.

A Scout deserves a Trained Leader!
Please consider attending the University of Scouting, the premier training event in the council, which is one of the easiest ways for adult volunteers to achieve this goal of becoming a Trained Leader. This single-day training event is designed to supplement any leader’s training. Any Scout leader may attend. 
The University of Scouting is based on the BSA’s nationally recognized Four-Function plan, which includes:
- Program: training, camping/outdoor, advancement, and activities/civic service
- Unit service: commissioner service
- Finance: including marketing
- Membership and Relationships
Date: Saturday, November 17 2018
Time: 7am – 4pm

Bobwhite Blather: Look out for Snowplow Parents
Bobwhite Blather is a website written by a long-experienced scouter. As graduates of Wood Badge know, Bobwhite is one of the patrols used in that adult-training course.

BSA Training the World: YPT
Did you know that the Boy Scouts of America, last year in conjuntion with Kiwanis International, has hosted four symposia on Youth Protection? It has been designed to train other youth-serving organizations.
You can find some of the material on the web. From the 2016 conference and from the 2013 conference.
The symposium in 2018 will be in Atlanta, Georgia, October 8-10, 2018, sponsored by the Atlanta Area Council and run by National Council. More information as it becomes available.
If you know any school, church, or youth-organization leaders who are concerned about this issue, consider inviting them to attend this symposium. They are the intended audience. It will help build BSA’s credibility.

LET’S GET YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING DONE!
In case you haven’t already seen this reminder a few times… 🙂
Suggestion #1: Attend the in-person training at Eagle Creek Community Church on Saturday, May 5, hosted by Pack 830! (See this previous post for more details). Rumor has it that attendees that complete this training session will receive a “discount token” that can be used at the Troop 358 Hog Roast held later that same day – GREAT food, silent auction, lots of fun! See, how’s that for incentive.
Suggestion #2: Since the revised Youth Protection Training consists of three modules plus a test, consider doing one module at a time (the modules run about 20 minutes apiece). Maybe on the phone as you are on the treadmill, stationary bike, or “desk lunch”? Or with headphones on your PC or tablet at the back of the Scout / Pack / Venture / Webelos meeting if you can break away for a short while? Just a thought!
Attached here is a training environment tips and tricks sheet for navigating the environment. NOTE that this is not a BSA-sanctioned document, is based on one end-user’s experience, and is limited to the environment only – no content tips here. Assuming your connectivity is good and the platform is running smoothly but you are just stuck on how to get around, give this a shot – don’t let the environment be the show-stopper, in other words.
