Council’s 2015 Popcorn Sales & Marketing Plan

On April 21, 2015, the Council held its semi-annual council operations meeting. This meeting is a chance for Council to outline its business plan for the next six (6) months and outline the responsibilities for the districts in carrying out those plans. The intended audience is the District’s Committee Chair, Vice-Chairs for Programming (with break outs for advancement, camping and activities), Communications, Membership, and Development, and the Commissioner.

Council has made some changes to the Popcorn Sales and Marketing plan. They highlighted a few key dates for us last night.

In August, training for popcorn sales will be held at the district level, so we will be responsible for training our units.

On September 1, 2015, Scouts will begin taking written orders for popcorn. This includes door-to-door sales. The history is that most sales come from written orders and not show-and-sell opportunities. No product will be available for sale during this time period. Prizes will be offered for boys selling more than $350 of product in the first two (2) weeks of open sales.

Also on September 1, 2015, units can place their first orders for product for delivery on or after September 19, 2015. Council recommends that these orders should be for 75% of last year’s sales.

On September 19, 2015, units can begin show-and-sells (which Council calls “storefront sales”). Council encourages units make reservations with stores now.

On October 18, popcorn sales close.

On October 20, 2015, 20% of popcorn price is due.

On October 27, 2015, final orders are due.

From November 10-14, 2015, District distribution of popcorn will take place.

On December 4, 2015, final popcorn payments are due.
